SMS Consent & Opt-In Policy

How Ohhey collects and manages consent for SMS reminders

Overview

Ohhey is a date reminder application that helps users remember important dates like birthdays, anniversaries, and holidays. Users may optionally opt in to receive SMS text message reminders for their saved dates. SMS messaging is entirely optional and requires explicit user consent before any messages are sent.

How Users Opt In to SMS

Users must complete a multi-step, explicit opt-in process before receiving any SMS messages from Ohhey:

1.

Create an Account

Users sign up for an Ohhey account at www.ohhey.io using Google authentication or email/password via Clerk.

2.

Navigate to Settings

After logging in, users navigate to the Settings page from the main navigation.

3.

Enter Phone Number

Users manually enter their phone number in the settings form. This number is used exclusively for sending date reminders.

4.

Toggle “Enable SMS Reminders” On

Users must explicitly toggle the “Enable SMS reminders” switch to the ON position. This toggle is off by default. The toggle is accompanied by clear consent language that reads:

“I consent to receive SMS messages from Ohhey. You'll get a monthly summary on the 1st and day-of reminders. Standard messaging rates may apply.”
5.

Click “Save Settings”

Users must click the “Save Settings” button to confirm their opt-in. No messages are sent until this step is completed. Users may also send a test SMS to verify the setup before receiving real reminders.

Opt-In Interface

Below is a replica of the SMS opt-in interface as it appears to users on the Settings page at www.ohhey.io/settings:

Types of Messages Sent

Once opted in, users receive two types of SMS messages:

📅 Monthly Summary

Sent on the 1st of each month. Lists all important dates coming up that month so users can plan ahead.

🎂 Day-Of Reminder

Sent on the morning of an important date. A simple reminder that today is the day (e.g., “Today is Mom's Birthday!”).

Message frequency varies based on the number of dates a user has saved. A typical user with 10-15 saved dates would receive approximately 2-4 messages per month. Ohhey does not send marketing, promotional, or advertising messages.

Message Frequency

Message frequency varies based on the number of important dates a user has saved. Users will receive a maximum of 1 monthly summary message per month plus 1 reminder per important date that occurs. For example, a user with 5 birthdays in March would receive 6 messages that month (1 summary + 5 day-of reminders). Standard message and data rates may apply.

How to Opt Out

Users can opt out of SMS messages at any time through multiple methods:

  • In-app: Navigate to Settings and toggle “Enable SMS reminders” to OFF, then click “Save Settings”
  • Reply STOP: Reply STOP to any message received from Ohhey
  • Contact support: Email support@ohhey.io to request opt-out

All opt-out requests are processed immediately. No further messages will be sent after opting out.

Data Privacy

Phone numbers collected for SMS reminders are stored securely and used exclusively for sending date reminders. We do not sell, share, or use phone numbers for marketing or any other purpose. For complete details, see our Privacy Policy.
